The qualities we look for in an ideal candidate for fire investigator in the private sector include:
- Properly trained and experienced in fire investigations
- Nationally certified (preferably IAAI-CFI, etc.), or able to become certified
- Effective communicator, especially when testifying in depositions or court
- Court qualified as an expert, or able to become court qualified
- Ability to express opinions and present factual data that will hold up against other experts and in court
- Degree in fire investigation, or equivalent experience
- Criminal investigation experience, or willingness to learn
- Ability to obtain private investigation licenses in the states in which they work
- Willing to get a little dirty to discover the truth
- Continued education through attendance at fire school classes and seminars
With a great attitude, determination and a strong work ethic a candidate will gain the training, education and experience needed to become the best.
